Who is eligible?
Any person or institution that provides a WHOIS lookup service for their client can subscribe to the WHOIS2 service.
How much does it cost?
The service will currently be provided free of charge.
How long does the application process take?
2 – 3 working days
When does the contract begin?
Your contract begins on the date that we notify you that we have accepted your application to use the WHOIS2. The contract continues indefinitely unless terminated, or suspended, in accordance with the contract.
Who do I contact for help?
NOTE: Support for the WHOIS2 is only available during office hours. It is not covered by our out of hours support service.
Can I use the WHOIS2 to query the register for myself?
No, the WHOIS2 service is designed to provide a gateway for your clients to access the Nominet WHOIS.You may not use the WHOIS2 service in such a way that you are both the end user and the WHOIS gateway
What can I use the WHOIS2 for?
You can use the WHOIS2 to provide a whois lookup facility for your clients.
How do I know when my gateway has been blocked?
When you are blocked the WHOIS2 responds, to the first query that is blocked with:
Error for "<domain name>".
This proxy has exceeded its quota for forwarded WHOIS queries.
The quota will be replenished in <nnn> seconds.

How do I unsubscribe?
To unsubscribe from the Nominet WHOIS2 a signed pgp email to support@nominet.org.uk . If you are not a Nominet member or registrar you need to send us a fax requesting us to unsubscribe you from the whois. This fax needs to be on your full company letter headed paper and fax it to 01865 332281.
How do I notify you of a change of IP address for the gateway?
You can notify us about your new IP address by sending a pgp email to support@nominet.org.uk. If you are not a Nominet member or registrar you need to send us a signed fax requesting us to change your IP address for the WHOIS2 service. This fax needs to be on your full company letter headed paper and fax it to 01865 332281

Can I subscribe more than one gateway IP to the WHOIS2?
Yes, each subscriber can use up to two IP addresses for the WHOIS2. If more than one IP address is used, the limits will be aggregated across both IP addresses.
